Prey Weapons and Upgrades - All the Best Abilities

While you might want to attempt a runthrough of Prey without using neuromods in order to unlock some achievements/trophies, you won't be able to do so unless you have a mastery of Prey's weapons. Get all the info you need below, including how each weapon can be upgraded.

Wrench

  • Damage:11-22
  • Weapon Size:2 Inventory Slots

As well as letting you repair various things during your adventure, the wrench is a useful melee weapon. Hold down the attack button to perform a powerful swing or tap the button for a weaker jab. Swings will use stamina, so damage caused by rapid strikes will become increasingly weaker. The wrench can’t be upgraded.

GLOO Cannon

  • Incapacitation Rate: 100%-225%
  • Weapon Size: 3 Inventory Slots
  • Reload Speed: 100%-175%
  • Handling: 33%-75%
  • Range: 9m - 24m
  • Found: Neuromod Division foyer, next to the body of Veer Singh

The GLOO Cannon fires out a mass of foam that can freeze enemies or create a barrier between you and them. Immobilize an enemy then switch to a lethal weapon to dish out some damage. To fully upgrade the GLOO Cannon you’ll need to have the Lab Tech 1 and Lab Tech 2 abilities, and spend a total of 15 Weapon Upgrade Kits.

Silenced Pistol

  • Firepower: 11-13
  • Accuracy: 60
  • Range: 15m - 35m
  • Reload Speed: 60%-85%
  • Weapon Size:2 Inventory Slots
  • Found: Talos 1 Lobby, Teleconferencing Center - next to Elias Black’s body.

While the silence pistol is a useful weapon to have, it’s not worth upgrading much once you have more powerful weapons. If you do want to upgrade it fully you’ll need the Gunsmith 1 and Gunsmith 2 abilities and spend 15 Upgrade Kits.

Huntress Boltcaster

  • Weapon Size:2 Inventory Slots
  • Found: Sales Division, third floor of the Talos 1 Lobby. Also found in numerous other locations.
  • This weapon is a bit of fun, but it can come in handy to distract enemies - sort of how you throw coins in Hitman to fool guards.
  • Shotgun
  • Firepower: 44-71
  • Recoil: 100%-10%
  • Ammo Capacity: 4-10
  • Reload Speed: 60%-85%
  • Weapon Size:3 Inventory Slots
  • Found: Sarah Elazar’s office, in Talos 1’s lobby.

To fully upgrade the shotgun you’ll need to have the Gunsmith 1 and Gunsmith 2 abilities, plus spend 15 Upgrade Kits. As is usually the case with weapons in video games, the shotgun is best used against enemies in close quarters. It’s worth upgrading recoil as the stock stat makes for a weapon that is tricky to use.

Disruptor Stun Gun

  • Power: 4 seconds - 9 seconds
  • Range: 7.5m - 15m
  • Shots: 4-15
  • Recharge Rate: 1.5 seconds - 0.25 seconds
  • Weapon Size:2 Inventory Slots
  • Found: On the bodies of dead security officers.

The Disruptor Stun Gun shouldn’t be a priority weapon to upgrade as it serves a similar purpose to the GlOO Cannon. If you do want to upgrade it fully you’ll need Gunsmith 1 and Gunsmith plus 17 Upgrade Kits.

Q-Beam

  • Power: 55KW - 110KW
  • Firing Time: 5 seconds - 10 seconds
  • Handling: 15% - 75%
  • Reload Speed: 100% - 145%
  • Weapon Size:4 Inventory Slots
  • Found: Beams and Waves Lab in the Hardware Labs.

The Q-Beam is a very powerful weapon, especially when fully upgraded. You’ll need to have Tech Lab 1 and Tech Lab 2 abilities plus spend 14 Upgrade Kits to max out the Q-Beam. Save your ammo for the most dangerous Typhon enemies.

Artemis Golden Pistol

  • Firepower: 12-14
  • Magazine Capacity: 15-27
  • Range: 15m-35m
  • Accuracy: 60% - 85%
  • Weapon Size:2 Inventory Slots

Found: This gold weapon belongs to Jada Marks, a security force Captain. It’s in her cabin’s safe, in Crew Quarters, but can be yours by completing The Golden Gun optional objective.

The Artemis is a better version of the silenced pistol, so switch over to it for upgrades as soon as you have it. It’s never going to be a brilliantly powerful weapon, but it can hold a lot of ammo when fully upgraded. You’ll need to have Gunsmith 1 and Gunsmith 2 plus spend 15 Upgrade Kits to max it out.

Prey Best Devices Guide

EMP Charge

This thrown grenade-like device takes up one inventory slot and will temporarily disable all electronic or mechanical equipment.

Recycler Charge

Once deployed this device creates a small singularity that pulls objects and enemies into it. Larger enemies can get away, but anything that is full sucked in will be turned into their component parts. Uses on inventory slot.

Nullwave Transmitter

Once detonated this emits a pulse that temporarily disables the psi abilities of anything caught in the blast. It can also disable your own, so stay clear of the blast radius. Uses one inventory slot.

Typhon Lure

As the name suggests, this device is used to attract Typhons. A pulsing light will attract them for 20 seconds, giving you time to move past. Combine it with a Recycler and you can take out multiple foes at once.
