Post Malone headlining virtual concert to celebrate Pokemon's 25th anniversary

The Pokemon Company has announced more plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and this time the company has invited Post Malone to get in on the action.

On the back of the reception that the Katy Perry and Pokemon collaboration received when it was announced in mid-January, The Pokemon Company has now announced that American rapper and songwriter Post Malone will be hosting a virtual concert.

The show will take place at 4pm ET / 7pm ET / 12am GMT on 27/28 February – a date the company is calling Pokemon Day (and the anniversary of the original launch of the original games, Pokemon Red and Green, that released way back in 1996). The live concert will take place on the official Pokemon YouTube channelTwitch channel, and 25th anniversary website.

In the uncanny animated video above, you can see a teaser of what Post Malone is probably going to look like during the virtual festival.

"I’ve been a fan for such a long time, kind of grew up with it," Post Malone says to Billboard. "Celebrating 25 years is a big deal, so we decided to do it together." For context, the rapper turned 25 himself in 2020.

You can likely expect more artists to join in on the Pokemon-themed fun, too: The Pokemon Company International has teamed up with Universal Music Group to bring this concert and "more music surprises" to life throughout 2021 as part of P25 Music.

If you're eager to celebrate anything and everything Pokemon this year, you're in luck: there are also plans for collaborations with Build-A-Bear Workshop, Levi’s Jeans, fast food outlet McDonald’s. As a bonus, you can also expect more merch from Jazwares, Funko, and Mattel.
