Portal's GlaDOS voice confirmed for Pacific Rim

Filmaker Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that the voice you hear in the Pacific Rim trailer is an official GlaDOS nod.

Speaking with the Toronto Sun, del Toro said the AI featured in the film is indeed voiced by Ellen McLain, who plays the ruthless but loveable GlaDOS in Portal - but not in-character, as it were.

"I wanted very much to have her, because I’m a big Portal fan,” he said.

“But just as a wink. She’s not cake-obsessed. She’s not out to destroy humanity.”

In fact, del Toro actually hammed up the GlaDOS filter effect for the trailer, but Pacific Rim features a less familiar version.

"The filter we’re using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS," he said.

GlaDOS's "appearance" is official - the director and producer met with Valve to secure the deal.

"I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GlaDOS,’” del Toro said of the meeting.

The auteur has said in the past that he's a big fan of Valve and wanted to cast McLain in the film, but did not give details at the time. Check out the trailer below. Pacific Rim opens in July.
