Pokemon Sword and Shield maintains number one spot on Famitsu charts for nine weeks

Pokemon Sword and Shield is very popular.

Pokemon Sword and Shield has maintained its number one spot on the Famitsu charts in Japan for nine weeks.

This makes it the longest title to have maintained that position on the sales chart. Because of its staying power over the last nine weeks, it has beat out the previous record-holder, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Diamond and Pearl held the number one spot on the Famitsu chart for eight weeks running after its release in 2006.

Other Pokemon titles that spanned multiple weeks on the charts include Pokemon Gold and Silver for six weeks and Pokemon Black and White at five weeks.

The record-holder before Diamond and Pearl was the 2014 release Yo-Kai Watch 2 at seven weeks.

Famitsu has been calculating sales and releasing its weekly chart since 1995.
