Pokemon Sword and Shield: How to Get Mr. Rime

We explain how you can catch the Galarian Mr. Rime, as well as the original Mr. Mime in Sword and Shield.

Pokemon Sword and Shield contains a strange yet familiar new Pokemon in the form of Mr. Rime, an ice-type Pokemon with a hat and cane. We'll show you how to get Mr. Rime below, as well as the original Kanto Mr. Mime.

To get Mr. Rime in Sword and Shield you need to make it to Route 10. This can only happen after you've beaten all 8 Gym Leaders in Sword and Shield, which effectively makes this endgame content. At Route 10, and only at Route 10, can you find Mr. Rime roaming the wilds of the area.

However, if you can obtain a Galarian Mr. Mime, these can be evolved into your own Mr. Rime. We've got a guide on where to find Mr. Mime and all other Galar forms here, but once you have one, you can level it up to level 42, at which point it'll evolve into a Mr. Rime.

How to Get Kanto Mr. Mime

In order to obtain Mr. Mime in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you need to make it all the way to Spikesmuth in Route 9. This is where you'll take on the Dark-type Gym Leader Piers.

As you make your way through the town, you'll find it to overrun by Team Yell. You'll need to battle roughly five Team Yell Grunts to make it to the arena with the actual Gym Leader, and all the way you do this, a Mr. Mime will occasionally appear to hamper your progress, until you battle another grunt.

When you enter the arena with Gym Leader Piers, you won't immediately battle him. Before you reach the crowd of Team Yell Grunts and engage the leader himself, look towards the top of the arena, where you'll be able to see a lone Team Yell Grunt manning a stand.

Approach him, and he'll ask if you want to trade an Obstagoon for his Kantonian Mr. Mime. This is the only chance you'll have to get Mr. Mime in Pokemon Sword and Shield because, as we detailed above, he goes by a different name for his special Galarian form.
