Pokémon Go: requesting Pokéstops, changing usernames, and the fine print

Want your house turned into a pokéstop? Ask Niantic.

If you're sick of having a wash, putting on clothes, and venturing outside to swing by a couple of pokéstops, then you've turned into me. But also, you can submit requests to Niantic to have them turn your house into a pokéstop or gym.

Of course, it's unlikely that it'll do that just so that you can stay in your pyjamas catching pokémon all day, and admittedly it isn't accepting new submissions right now, but the possibility is there.

So if there's a landmark near you that deserves to be a gym or pokéstop and hasn't been registered as one in the app, hop over to the official Pokemon Go support page and submit your request.

You can also report dangerous gyms and pokéstops, as well as those that are on private property.

Now that you've had a day or two to level up your trainer, you may realise that in all the excitement of jumping onto the Pokémon Go train, you created a godawful username and now you're too embarrassed to station a pokémon at the local gym in case the other trainers make fun of you.

Well worry no more. There is a way to undo your heinous mistake.

Head over to the official Pokemon Go support page to request a nickname change.

The page does state that "changes are only allowed for players that accidentally input their real name or other personally identifiable information as their nickname," but you can always give it a whirl and see what happens.

There's still no option to change teams for the moment.

There's one last thing you should be aware of; the fine-print.

By agreeing to the app's terms of service, you've forfeited your arbitration rights.

"Except if you opt out and except for certain types of disputes described in the 'agreement to arbitrate' section below, you agree that disputes between you and Niantic will be resolved by binding, individual arbitration, and you are waiving your right to a trial by jury or to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class action or representative proceeding," it reads.

That covers everything but small claims court action and intellectual property rights.
