Originally slated for the end of July, the wearable piece of tech will arrive later this month.

Users will be able to interact with the Pokemon Go app without having to look down constantly at their smartphone. Note though that is is unable to provide an alert for any Pokemon attracted by in-game item Incense.

It also doesn't track distance walked by running in the background.

The tech connects through Bluetooth and notifies players about nearby Pokemon by flashing green and flashes blue within range of a PokeStop.

When a creature is near, the device will vibrate and its LED will flash green. Users will then press the button on the device once close to throw a Poke Ball. If the Pokemon is caught, the device will again start flashing along with vibrating.

Pokemon Go Plus is compatible with iPhone 5- 6s Plus using iOS 8-9. The press release didn't mention iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus specifically, or iOS 10 which is slated for September 13, but that will likely be the case as the new phones and OS were just announced yesterday.

It is also compatible with Android devices running OS 4.4-6.0 that have Bluetooth v4.0 or higher capability and at least 2GB of RAM.

The device can be used with Pokemon Go running in the background on smartphones, but in order to do so, they will need to update the app.

As of today Pokemon GO Plus is available to pre-order from the UK Nintendo Store. It will run you £34.99/$35.

It will release in the UK and North American regions, and others on September 16 and in select countries in South America later this year.

Availability in more locations will be announced at a later date.
