Pokemon Go Global Catch Challenge wants players to catch 3 billion Pokemon worldwide

Niantic has announced a new Pokemon Go event that's designed to encourage players to travel and catch 'em all to complete their Pokedex.

The event is called the Pokemon Go Global Catch Challenge, and it's asking players all over the world to catch 3 billion Pokemon and reap the rewards. From now until Sunday, November 26, everyone is encouraged to catch as many Pokemon as they can.

Niantic is keeping track of all Pokemon that will be caught during that period. Rewards are unlocked in three tiers, increasing the more Pokemon are caught. The first tier unlocks after 500 million Pokemon have been caught and it grants everyone double XP, and six hours of Pokemon luring incense.

At 1.5 billion catches, you get everything in the Bronze tier, along with double stardust. The final tier, however, is the big one. If players manage to catch 3 billion Pokemon, Farfetch’d will become available worldwide for 48 hours. Kangaskhan, currently an Oceania-exclusive, will be available in East Asia for 48 hours

What's more, with every new tier unlocked, the number of Pokemon appearing globally increases. The event concludes with a celebration at the Pokemon Go Safari Zone in Tottori, Japan, no November 26.
