PlayStation opens its own online store in the US

Sony has opened a new store to directly sell PlayStation hardware and games to players.

As the relevance of brick and mortal retail wanes, Sony decided to step in and establish its own online store for all things PlayStation. Available only in the US, the store sells PS4 and PS VR hardware, as well as a selection of physical games.

You'll also find PlayStation Plus vouchers and various peripherals such as controllers. The store is integrated into the official PlayStation site. If you have an active PlayStation Plus membership, you can log in to receive free one-day express shipping.

Sony says you can expect prices to be similar to what you might find at other name retailers. To celebrate the launch, the company is offering two bundles at a reduced price. The PS4 12-month Plus bundle for $340 instead of $360, and the PS4 Pro 12-month Plus bundle for $430 instead of $460.

You could definitely see this store factoring into Sony's next-gen plans, as it's likely going to be a prime spot of acquiring the hardware, should Sony decide to limit stock elsewhere.
