Tomorrow is going to be a big day for the worst kept secrets. Tomorrow, Sony will be putting on the PlayStation Meeting at the PlayStation Theatre in New York. The event is scheduled to begin at 3pm ET/12pm PT and the entire thing will be streamed on Twitch. I'll be attending the meeting in person, so you can join me digitally from anywhere around the world!

The event will be two hours long. We currently expect that it will show off the PlayStation 4 Neo and the already-leaked PlayStation 4 Slim, but two hours seems to be a long time for some hardware revision announcements. Perhaps Sony has something more up its sleeve?

If you've missed all the previous coverage of the new PlayStation hardware, here's a quick primer.

PlayStation 4 Neo

The PlayStation 4 hardware upgrade code-named "Neo" was rumored to be a beefier version of the PlayStation 4 that's already dominating this generation. The rumor first appeared back in March, when Kotaku broke the news that Sony was apparently working on an upgraded PS4.

A month later, Giant Bomb reported some further details on the hardware. All new games from October 2016 moving forward will work on both the original PlayStation 4 and the Neo, with those games having a "Neo mode" to utilize the system's additional power. How that power is used is up to the developers themselves, but it will likely be pushed towards better frame rates and visual fidelity. The system will be able to output at 4K resolution, but that will mostly be for Ultra HD Blu-Rays, while many games will probably upconvert a lower resolution image.

The rough specs for the system?

PlayStation 4 NEO
CPU 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
GPU AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
Memory 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

Ahead of E3, Sony revealed that the Neo was in fact a real thing, but wouldn't be appearing at the upcoming conference.

PlayStation 4 Slim

This went from rumor to leak real quick. One day, the Wall Street Journal was reporting that Sony had a slim model of the PlayStation 4 on the way. The next, Eurogamer was confirming the system was real.

Like the PSOne, PlayStation 2 Slimline, the PlayStation 3 Slim, and the PlayStation 3 Super Slim, this model is intended as a direct replacement of the existing PS4 moving forward. Old stock will dry up and eventually this will be the only PlayStation 4 you'll find on store shelves. The system will likely be cheaper than the existing PS4 and allow Sony to broaden its market share with the system a bit more.

The USgamer team will be following the entire event, so you can hit us up in the comments as we watch alongside you!
