Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare developer PopCap stressed last week that the shooter won't feature microtransactions, but it does feature a coin system that enables players to buy upgrade packs in-game. Coins are earned through play, not real-money and the whole system has been explained by PopCap in our new video.
