Pipeworks: Deadliest Warrior has sold 225k units

Pipeworks Software's Deadliest Warrior has racked up significant sales on XBLA and PSN since its July release, the developer has told Gamasutra.

The fighter, first published by Spike Games, launched on XBLA on July 14 and on PSN on October 5: to date, it's sold over 225,000 units.

The developers discuss the development process in the piece, and how it managed to avoid comparisons with big fight hitters, such as Tekken and Street Fighter, by sticking to a Bushido Blade style.

"One of the brainstorm sessions lead to discussions of Bushido Blade and the strategic combat system Square's PlayStation 1 classic used. No fancy combos, no ridiculous powers and health systems - just timing, spacing and strategy," said Spike's Prithvi Virasinghe.

"It really resonated with what we were trying to achieve on Deadliest Warrior."

Loads more through there. Thanks, Joystiq.
