Phantom Brigade has a cinematic spin on turn-based mech combat

Phantom Brigade wants to explore a rich story even while everything explodes around your characters.

Titanfall 2 proved that video games about giant, destructive mechs could still have impressively well-crafted stories. Now Brace Yourself Games wants to see if the same thing can be done within the turn-based strategy genre in Phantom Brigade.

Phantom Brigade takes place during a futuristic war where the losing side only has one surviving squad of mech pilots left. As enemies approach their homeland, these pilots must make guerrilla strikes on enemy bases to obtain equipment that gives them a fighting chance. A cinematic teaser from Brace Yourself Games provides a taste of the action, along with some interactions that imply the squad is legitimately struggling to keep up with even non-mech weaponry.

Players will have access to a wide range of mech customization options, both in terms of performance and cosmetics. Since mechs will always be outnumbered on the battlefield, you'll need to predict enemy movements and prepare countermeasures. That said, resources will be limited - hard choices need to be made in terms of base upgrades and world map deployments.

That said Phantom Brigade isn't forgetting it's a mech game. Apparently every square meter of map scenery can be destroyed, be it farmland or entire towns.

Phantom Brigade doesn't have a release date just yet, but has launched a Steam page to follow its progress.
