Persona 5 domain registered by Atlus parent

Index Corporation has finally registered a domain name for Persona 5, the RPG sequel we've been waiting for since 2009.

You can view the Persona5.jp domain registration here; it was made at the end of June.

Naturally, the registration has provoked furious speculation that the new Persona game, which we know damn well is coming eventually, will finally be announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which takes place in September.

On the less excited side, Index Corp really ought to have picked up this domain years ago, and to retreat into cynicism for a moment, the fact that it's doing so now may impress share holders enough that they won't flee from its current legal and financial troubles.

Index Corp is the parent company of Japanese developer Atlus, as well as the US-based publisher of the same name. Atlus USA has said the company's difficulties won't affect its upcoming release slate.

The Persona seriers is perhaps the best-known incarnation of the hugely sprawling Shin Megami Tensei series. It has players living an every-day school life by day and battling monsters in another world by night, and explores the characters' inner worlds both directly and through metaphor. The series has been well-received and the last entry, 2009's Persona 4, inspired a spin-off fighting game as well as a Vita remake, and - arguably - puzzler Catherine.
