Paradox Interactive takes city-building to the next level in Surviving Mars by throwing in a few asteroids

Paradox Interactive's Surviving Mars is a new frontier fraught with danger. All you have to do is survive.

Paradox Interactive's Cities: Skyline has been around for a couple of years now, hitting 3.5 million copies sold back in March.

If you're just about ready to move on to something else, Paradox is right there with you. Behold! The newly announced Surviving Mars.

"Colonize Mars and discover her secrets, with minimal casualties," reads the tagline and that just about sums up what awaits on the red planet.

Before you can get to designing sci-fi skyscrapers, you'll have to make the place habitable first, and in sweeps a team of Wall-E-esque robots to help you with the task. You can check out the adorable critters in the Gamescom trailer below.

As attractive as life sounds on this new frontier, the guy doing the VO isn't exactly instilling us with confidence on the safety of the expedition, but navigating asteroids and who knows what else is just part of the job for intrepid explorers.

You can sign up to become one of the founders on the official site, and it looks like you'll be rewarded with in-game items that'll give you a head start on your journey.

There's no official release date yet, but Surviving Mars is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018.
