Overwatch: here's why you will continue to see Mercy's multi-player res in the kill feed

It may not be a multi-kill, but Mercy's multi-res deserves a place in Overwatch's kill feed, according to Blizzard.

Overwatch, like almost all shooters, has a nice kill feed you can quickly glance at to stay up to date on what's happening.

When a player gets a multi-kill, such as in cases where an ultimate was used, the feed shows their name in more than one line, depending on how many kills they managed to get. This "clogging" approach is intentional, but some Overwatch players don't want to see Mercy get the same treatment.

In a thread on the game's forums, one player suggested a different UI design for instances where Mercy gets a multi-res. In their eyes, it would be better if the game just grouped up the avatars of the heroes revived in one line in the kill feed, instead of several like the game does with multi-kills.

The way it is now - parity between a multi-kill and a multi-res - is like that for a reason, according to game director Jeff Kaplan.

"If a player gets a big multi-kill, it blows out the feed -- allowing you to know that something big just happened immediately without even looking at the details (think of a Reaper getting a team wipe with a Death Blossom)," he explained.

"We wanted the same feel to a Mercy res. We felt like it should be that impactful," added Kaplan. Blizzard wants the focus to be the on the battlefield, not the UI, so the latter has to be "an intuitive gauge for players without having to overly study every detail."

Kaplan did not rule out the possibility for this to change in the future, however, as everything in Overwatch is always in a state of constant evolution. For now, a multi-kill will be treated the same way as a multi-res.
