Overwatch trademark dispute between Blizzard and Innovis Labs settled

Blizzard and Innovis Labs has settled a trademark dispute over the use of "Overwatch", the developer's upcoming team-based multiplayer online shooter.

According to a breakdown of the dispute posted by McArthur Law Firm (via Polygon), litigation proceedings were dismissed once Innnovis filed paperwork on October 21 stating it was handing the trademark over to Blizzard.

It is unknown at present the circumstances leading to Innovis giving up its trademark, but the McAurthur Law Firm speculates quite a bit of money was handed over by Blizzard.

A trademark for Overwatch appeared in April last year before the game was officially announced during BlizzCon in November 2014.

In January of this year, two trademark suspension notices were sent to Blizzard by the USPTO over Innovis Labs, Inc. holding the Overwatch trademark for its application which is used for airsoft, paintball and laser tag matches.

Overwatch is currently in closed beta with open stress testing having occurred in late October. Open betas will be held on weekends and will be larger in scale in order to continue testing the servers.

The first beta test will launch around BlizzCon which runs November 6-7.
