Ouya to drop the free-trial requirement

Ouya will be dropping the free demo requirement it has always had since launch, giving the developers the option to offer their games with or without a demo or a trial.

In a blog post, Ouya's Bob Mills explained that they saw the 'free to try' model to fit their visions for an open platform, not accounting for how difficult this would be for some developers who don't have the resources or are not able to provide a demo. By removing this requirement, the developer should now have the choice.

"We found ourselves weighing one good thing against another. Do we support the awesome feeling of getting to try anything before you buy it, or do we make the pathway to publishing on the TV even easier for devs? It was a difficult choice.

"We didn’t come to this decision unilaterally. Devs have been asking us for this choice for more than a year. Giving devs the freedom to choose gives our gamers access to the best games available. We’re clearing another roadblock in the pathway to publishing on the TV, and that means more great games will make it to OUYA."

This is a major change in the company's policy since the launch of the console last year.

Thanks, Gamespot.
