Who will buy Ouya?

Remember how Ouya raised over $8.5 million in crowdfunding, and then turned up and didn't become an overnight sensation?

ouya

Ouya is said to be in buyout talks with a number of companies in China and the US.

The rumour comes via Recode, citing "several sources close to the situation".

According to the site's report the talks are still in the very early stages, with no offers made, but Ouya believes a buyout may be its best option moving forward, as opposed to another round of investor funding. The talks are related to Ouya's name and stable of talent, as opposed to the product itself - which isn't selling enormously well.

Ouya has had a chat with Amazon and Google, as well as Xiaomi, Tencent and "others in China". As Recode notes, China's recent lifting of the console ban, and its huge market for cheap Android devices, is a good fit for Ouya's strengths.

Ouya is yet to comment on the rumours, but its recent push to go hardware agnostic suggests its looking for ways to move beyond its core micro-console product.
