Ouya Android console Kickstarter surpasses $3 million

The Ouya Kickstarter has now hit $3,076,320 with 28 days left. According to the console's designer, Yves Behar, the system will provide owners with free and low-cost Android games and it's high time the console market was hook up a little.

Speaking during the MobileBeat 2012 conference today, Behar said via Polygon:

"The gaming community [...] wants to be engaged, wants something new, wants it to be open. There’s lots of programmers, hackers, [and] game developers that don’t want to pay the huge fees that it takes to get a developer kit [for a major console].

"There’s just not a lot of attention, of love and care and attention, on the [Andorid] platform. But that’s changing. We need to refine and detail things to be true to what their use and intention is, while building personality, while building brands. That’s the really exciting challenge when it comes to UI/UX for us."

Ouya is slated for release in March 2013.
