Ono: Would like a Street Fighter title with customizable fighters

What's better than dishing out some serious punishment to your opponents playing as Ryu or Ken? Having a highly customized Ryu or Ken to do so.

If Street Fighter producer, Yoshinori Ono's words are to be taken seriously, it might actually be a possibility in the future.

Ono has expressed his desire to make a SF title where players can customize their fighters and select what moves they can use, and what skills they may possess. This means my Ryu can be entirely different from yours.

“What I’d love to do someday, if possible, is taking these characters — like Ryu, Chun-Li, Abel, and Juri — and having a game where users could customize them to a high degree,” Ono said during an interview with GamePro.

“I’m not talking about their costumes or something like that, but actually customizing what moves they use — the timing of them, their strengths, their weaknesses — so that my Ryu could be completely different from your Ryu. In addition to our skill sets being different, our characters themselves would be different."

Ono went on to compare his idea with F-1 racing, stating that although the competition's rules are same for every car, each car is unique and different. He would love to simulate something like that in a fighting game.

“I would compare it to something like F-1 Racing. There’s rules they have to obey and regulations for your car, but all the cars have different engines and different parts. Within that rule set, it really boils down to the driver’s skill. If we could simulate something like that in a fighting game, I think it would be really awesome.”

Street Fighter X Tekken - a crossover which sees fighters from both the popular fighting franchises lock horns against each other - is in development for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and will be out sometime in 2012.
