Oddworld's future depends on New 'n' Tasty sales

Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning has shared some specific goals for the series, depending on the sales figures of the upcoming Abe's Oddysee remake, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty.

Speaking to Eurogamer at GDC this week, Lanning confirmed that the studio's next project is expected to be a similar HD remake of the 1998 classic Abe's Exoddus, and interestingly, "expansion packs" for the two remakes are also apparently planned.

To fund that, New 'n' Tasty needs to sell at least 250,000 copies - a goal the studio is confident it can reach, judging by the success of the recent digital re-releases of the first four Oddworld games.

If it can go beyond that and shift 500,000 units, we might see a new, original Oddworld title. One potential candidate is The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot, which was cancelled in 2005. Lanning has revived it and wants to continue developing it.

"Over the last year and a half, I've designed Fangus extensively. And I would like to be able to move into Fangus soon as a new IP in Oddworld," he said.

The studio has also stated that there's some big news to be announced in the next day or so.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is due later this year for PC, PS3, PS4, and Wii U.
