UK-based artist plans to wear Oculus Rift for 28 days as an experiment

Mark Farid is a UK-based artist who plans to wear Oculus Rift for 28 days as an experiment and he's taken his project to Kickstarter for funding.

According to the description on Kickstarter, the project - Seeing-I - is a "social-artistic experiment that questions how much of the individual is an inherent personality and how large a portion of the individual is a cultural identity."

How it will work is a volunteer will film a month of their life from a first-person perspective.

Then, once filming is complete, it will be turned into an Oculus compatible movie of sorts. Farid will then "live" this person's life for a 28 days.

He believes the experiment will immerse him so deeply into this person;s life he will lose his own identity.

Since he is living someone else's life, he will be unable to do ordinary thing for himself such as bathe, go to the toilet and eat while wearing the headset. He will have people on hand to help him in these matters.

Do to the fact he could develop a psychosis, Farid will enlist the help of a psychiatrist who will be available 24/7.

More information is available through Farid's Kickstarter page. He is asking £150,000 and with 29 days left, 33 backers have donated £2,237 to the project.

The Oculus model being used is the developer kit as a consumer model isn't expected to be released until sometime in 2015. The VR headset if expected to retail for around the $200-$400 mark.
