No Man’s Sky The Abyss

Creator Sean Murray teased the arrival of a new No Man’s Sky update last week. Wth litte more than a title and a “next week” timeline to go off, we really had no idea what to expect. Luckily, some members of the No Man’s Sky community were a little more astute, and correctly pondered that The Abyss would expand upon the game’s underwater sections, It adds a whole host of new features, the headline of which is surely the Nautilon submarine Exocraft. There are new monsters to take on, bases to build, and a new questline to complete, let’s take a look at what’s new.

No Man’s Sky Submarine - How to Get the Nautilon Exocraft

The coolest new toy that The Abyss adds to No Man’s Sky is the Nautilon Exocraft. It’s a little submarine that allows players to explore the underwater depths of any planet they wish. You’ll need to build it first though, which is why we’ve included the instructions below:

  • First, you’ll need to head into the regular mode of No Man’s Sky, not Creation.
  • Now, you’ll notice a new quest in the menu called ‘Dreams of the Deep’.
  • Following the first part of the quest will lead you to a shipwreck.
  • Here, you’ll find the blueprint for the Nautilon, a new submarine Exocraft.

Once you have the blueprints, you’ll need to build the Nautilon Chamber. It acts as the landing pad for the submarine, so build it somewhere near a base so you can return to it later. Here’s what you’ll need to build the Nautilon Chamber in No Man’s Sky:

  • 5 Metal Plates
  • 4 Sulfur Crystals
  • 100 Salt

No Man’s Sky Dreams of the Deep

The Abyss update to No Man’s Sky introduces a new quest to the game. It’s called ‘Dreams of the deep’ and will automatically be added to your menu when jumping back in. If it doesn’t appear right away, head into space and your scanner may trigger it.

No Man’s Sky Underwater Base

Some new base Building options have been added to No Man’s Sky as part of The abyss. Underwater bases can be built, fit with live aquariums, and landing pads for the new submarine. Follow the ‘Dreams of the Deep’ quest to pick up the required blueprints.

No Man’s Sky Abyssal Horrors

Abyssal Horrors are the new predatory animals added as part of The Abyss. They are not to be messed with, as they can trap you in a tractor beam of sorts, then will essentially one-hit kill you. You’ll need around ten grenades to take them out, so it’s best to stay in the submarine around them.
