What awaits at the centre of No Man's Sky's galaxy is the thing players are furious about the most

What you find at the centre of the galaxy in No Man's Sky's is perhaps the most disappointing thing about it.

On many occasions before the release of No Man's Sky, developer Hello Games said that a key goal in the game is for players to reach the centre of the galaxy.

When you start No Man's Sky you're given a choice between wandering aimlessly, or having the game draw out a line that connects your home planet to the centre of the galaxy. You'll have to travel to multiple planets along the way, but so long as you're following this path, you will reach the centre.

This was seen as the game's ultimate goal, and is very much the only real "quest" you'll come across, something you're reminded of each time you interact with an Atlas monument. It's the place players want to reach the most, to find out what awaits them.

Spoilers for the ending of No Man's Sky to follow. Turn back now if you don't want to know how the game ends.

Once you reach the centre of the galaxy, the point you've been working towards all this time, eager to meet whatever god or learn the big revelation about the game's world, there's nothing for you there. No, that's really it, the game zooms back out all the way to the same menu you first saw when you started it, the one with all the stars and systems.

That's it. You can watch the whole sequence in the video below via ShoSho. It's quite the revelation.

Over on Reddit, a massive thread has been gaining traction. Players' eagerness has turned into anger, and it's not a pretty sight.

Those who are currently on their way to the centre, feel like all the time they've spent trying to reach that goal has been wasted. And those who have reached the centre, have echoed the original poster's disappointment, even if they enjoyed the game.
