No Man's Sky and Pokemon GO helped generate billions for digital games

History will not be kind to No Man's Sky, but one thing is clear - it made all kinds of money. Intelligence firm SuperData Research has compiled data on August's digital game transactions and found a staggering grand total of £4.7 billion across purchases and microtransactions.

Where does No Man's Sky fit into this? As reported by VentureBeat, the space exploration game came in second place for digital transactions on consoles, defeated only by Call of Duty: Black Ops III. It also came in sixth for digital PC purchases, which means No Man's Sky earned about £60 million in its first month.

Of course No Man's Sky wasn't the only surprise contributor here. Pokemon GO continues to rake in money through digital transactions, pushing the entire mobile market up to £2.34 billion. And even if No Man's Sky and Pokemon GO fade into memory, those figures will only increase as digital purchases become the industry standard.
