No, Hideo Kojima never came up with Metal Gear Survive

Metal Gear Survive will be the first Metal Gear game Konami publishes after its falling out with creator Hideo Kojima last year, marking a strong departure from the franchise so far. Considering the relatively quick turnaround from Metal Gear Solid 5's release, it's apparently left some fans wondering whether Kojima had any input on the game before moving to Death Stranding. Kojima addressed those concerns at Tokyo Games Show, clarifying that he had nothing to do with the concept while poking fun at Konami's zombie focus.

"That is incorrect. I’m not involved at all, and I don’t know anything about it," Kojima explained when asked. "Personally speaking, Metal Gear Solid is espionage to me, political fiction. I don’t think zombies would appear in such a world."

"Personally, I consider Metal [Gears] to be bipedal weapons. I wonder if they’ll appear," Metal Gear designed Yoji Shinkawa added. "A Metal Gear without a Metal [Gear]? That’s the Famicom version."

Of course, the response isn't entirely surprising. Even if Kojima was inclined to speak favorably of Metal Gear Survive, the game is set in an alternate timeline that has little to do with events of Metal Gear Solid. And even if the co-op zombie-killing premise proves successful, it's worlds away from the stealth gameplay Kojima pioneered in previous titles.

Metal Gear Survive launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2017.
