No further mod support planned for The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 will not be getting a Redkit style modding suite.

A ModKit for The Witcher 3 was released late last week, and while it's very cool to be able to make Roach a skeletal beast or whatever, it's not as robust as some fans had hoped for.

Basically the problem is that the ModKit is mostly useful for cosmetic changes and maybe new equipment - it doesn't provide the kind of tools and support modders use to make new game modes, total conversions, new story modules and other such weighty content.

It's not impossible to work without official tools, but CD Projekt RED spoiled its fans with past titles; the RedKit modding suite for The Witcher 2 was really excellent. Many modders were hoping for something similar this time around, and that's just not going to happen, according to community manager Marcin Momot.

Well, that's disappointing. It's not like we're entitled to a proper modding tool, especially given how much work it is for developers, but you can't really blame modders for expecting something as good as we got last time. Try not to shout at CD Projekt Red too much; it's been pretty good about loads of post-launch support and free DLC, after all.

Thanks, Gamespot.
