Nintendo's E3 analyst presentation compares console growth, dance and shooter genre sales

Nintendo dropped quite a few interesting statistics during its Analyst Q&A session at E3 last week. Figures regarding the best-selling genres, how many homes own Wii systems, and other nifty US figures derived in part by NPD.

According to the presentation, combined sales of Sony and Microsoft home platforms are down 9 percent when comparing this generation versus the last generation, and during this time, US households have grown 5 percent. The chart showed that in the first five and a half years on the market, Nintendo's last generation home console moved 11.1 million units, and other manufacturers combined moved 47.7 million. This gen Nintendo home consoles have moved 35.5 million units, showing growth over last gen of 319 percent.

Sales of Wii this generation have moved three times what GameCube moved, and in the US market, 43 percent say they only use Nintendo hardware, while another 30 percent use Nintendo platforms as well platforms from other manufacturers, and 23 percent said they use either Sony or Microsoft systems exclusively. This means that more than three-quarters of US players are using a Nintendo platform.

During the presentation, Reggie Fils-Aime showed a slide depicting what gaming genre was purchased the most in the US. The top genre for 2011 is the Dance and Fitness sector which has moved 3.67 million units for the year. Following in second place on the chart was first-person shooters with 2.49 million, then Pokemon with 2.84 million, and finally, the sports genre with 610,000 units moved for the year so far.
