Nintendo wins 3DS & DSi processor patent lawsuit

Nintendo has emerged victorious in a law suit filed by Technology Properties Limited LLC, Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC and Patriot Scientific Corporation. The parties claimed that the Kyoto firm infringed on three microprocessor patents via its 3DS and DSi handhelds.

Nintendo Life reports that The International Trade Commission named Nintendo the victor, deeming that the company did not infringe on the patents in question.

Following the win, Nintendo of America’s vice president and deputy general counsel Richard Medway said, "We are very pleased with the commission’s determination, which confirmed the judge’s finding that Nintendo’s products do not infringe the asserted paten.

"Nintendo’s track record demonstrates that we vigorously defend patent lawsuits, including cases in the ITC, when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patent. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others."

It's another legal win for Nintendo, but follows its significant loss over patents relating to glasses-less 3D technology used in its 3DS handheld. It must now pay royalties for each console sold.
