The news comes via a translation from Dr Serkan Toto - a reliable source of Japanese games industry news - but originates with a Nikkei report.

According to the publication's sources, Nintendo will be making an announcement unveiling its mobile plans on Thursday, during an investor briefing session.

The platform holder intends to use smartphones and tablets to market console games, by releasing demos and videos of Nintendo console titles through a dedicated mobile app.

Nintendo will not be releasing full games on mobile; the idea is to convert smartphone users to Nintendo customers by giving them a taste of what is only available if they purchase a 3DS or Wii U.

The app and all content will be free, and platforms have not been confirmed, although iOS and Android seem like safe bets.

If the report is accurate, we should know more by the end of the week.

Thanks, GamesIndustry.
