Nintendo full-year profits hit seven-year low, 3DS misses targets

Nintendo's fiscal 2011 profits hit a seven-year low in the wake of the launch of 3DS in late February in Japan and March elsewhere.

Net income came in at ¥77.6 billion for year ending March 31, 2011, down 66.1 percent year-over-year, while net income was at ¥1 trillion, down 29.3 percent.

In hardware terms, Wii has now sold 86 million units worldwide with 15 million units sold in FY2011. DS and all its SKUs moved 17.5 million units in the year, and 3DS sold 3.6 million units in its first two months on sale, just 0.4 million short of the projections announced by Nintendo for FY2011.

For software, 120.98 million units were moved for DS, 9.43 million units for 3DS and 171.26 million were sold to Wii.

Sales weren't forecast for the company's Wii successor, which was confirmed to release in calendar 2012, with a reveal to come at E3.
