Nintendo downloads: Ninja Gaiden NES leads this week's content

Nintendo formats just got a lot more difficult as the insanely brutal Ninja Gaiden is heading to 3DS eShop this week. Tecmo's iconic platformer is a reminder that the 1980s were a time of grief, tears and uncompromising challenge. Get the full list of Nintendo's weekly digital content below.

Ninja Gaiden will run you £4.49 / €4.99 on the 3DS eShop, but take heed: you're essentially paying to upset yourself. If you're a fan of tough platformers like Mega Man then you need to check this game out.

Here's a synopsis: Ninja Gaiden sees Ryu travel to America to seek vengeance for his father’s murder, and uncover a plot that threatens the world – as told through unique anime-style cut scenes. Run, crouch, jump and climb as you battle through 20 challenging side-scrolling areas over six acts while defeating gangs of thugs, evil ninjas and barbarian bosses with your deadly Dragon Sword and Ninpo – ninja magic.

Next up is 3DS puzzler Fallblox from Nintendo. It's the sequel to Pullblox and sees Mallo return to tackle 140 new gravity-based challenges, all for the princely sum of £7.19 / €7.99.

Shooter Johnny Hotshot from UFO Interactive is next up, and it sees the titular Johnny sucked into his favourite game and forced into the role of town sheriff to protect a town from the evil Mr. Wang. On paper it sounds nuts, but you can check it out for yourself for £5.39 / €5.99.

Nintendo's New Style Boutique goes digital on 3DS at £39.99 / €44.99. it puts you in the role of a shop assistant who must rise up through the ranks of the fashion world's elite and realise your dream of owning your own boutique.

Visual novel Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward has received a demo on 3DS eShop, while this week's final release Magical Whip from Agetec hits 3DS and DS at £1.79 / €1.99. It sees you battling through a dangerous forest across 50 levels as you fight wizards monsters and more
