Nintendo axes plans for Zelda anniversary collection

Nintendo won't be releasing a Zelda game collection to mark the franchise's 25th anniversary.

According to Nintendo World's translation of a recent episode of Iwata Asks, Nintendo of America proposed a Zelda collection similar to last year's Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition.

Nintendo Japan ruled it out, with designer Shigeru Miyamoto and president Satoru Iwata suggesting that to do a collection two years in a row wasn't like Nintendo.

Zelda's birthday will instead be marked by two soundtrack CDs, the free release of Four Sword through DSiWare, a limited edition gold WiiMote for Skyward Sword, and several commemorative concerts.

If that weren't enough to wound fans, Miyamoto mused through the rest of the interview that he would like to be able to use Zelda's characters in different roles rather than sticking to canon, and wishes players wouldn't put so much emphasis on the story. Ouch. So much for your "DOWN WITH GANON" tattoo.
