Nintendo Account, My Nintendo and Miitomo launching in March

Nintendo has pencilled in a launch date for its first mobile game and new, hardware-agnostic platform.

New user ID system Nintendo Account and rewards program My Nintendo will roll out to 39 countries in March, Nintendo told investors during a shareholder briefing today.

At launch, Nintendo Account users will be able to purchase games from web or mobile clients, and set them to auto-download to 3DS and Wii U. Nintendo Account activities such as logging into the eShop or using Nintendo apps will reward players with Platinum Points, My Nintendo's primary currency. Platinum Points are used to purchase cosmetics like 3DS themes, while Gold Points unlock discounts on purchases. It's not clear how Gold Points are earned.

Ny Nintendo will also feature messaging and discount coupons at launch, but things like friend list management will be added later on.

Miitomo, Nintendo's first full mobile game, will also release in March. It will release first in Japan before spreading to North America, the UK, Ireland, western Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand - 16 nations in total.

You'll be able to pre-register for Miitomo, which seems to be something like a social network, from February 17. Nintendo's second mobile app will be more recognisable to core fans, the company said overnight.

Nintendo will likely release English translations of the Japanese presentation slides in the next few days, so expect further information soon.

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo didn't say anything about the NX. Although we expect a reveal of the new hardware this year, Nintendo's latest financial report failed to mention the topic, which told us the company wants to keep it quiet for now.
