Nintendo 2DS is out later this week the same day as Pokemon X & Y

Nintendo 2DS is out later this week, alongside Pokemon X & Y, and the firm has reiterated that the handheld was designed specifically as an accessible entry point for kids.

2DS contains many of the same hardware features as 3DS, such as touch-screen controls, StreetPass, online multiplayer functionality and the ability to download games.

It is also without any hinges, so there's no more worrying about whether or not your younger child will snap off the top screen or try to bend it backwards.

The system will come in red and blue, and plays all Nintendo 3DS games in 2D, and is backward compatible with the existing library of DS games.

2DS launches on October 12 and you can check out Stace's hands-on with it in case you haven't already.
