NGP to use Skyhook as location program

Skyhook Wireless has said it's to support NGP by becoming the main location-based program on the device.

The company announced that it'll be the location tracking program of choice on the platform when it releases later this year.

The program will enable you to find a location using a combination of wi-fi, cell-phone triangulation and GPS.

Sony said at the reveal for NGP at the end of January that NGP will be used for location-based stuff, saying at the time it was the first device to allow you to connect to mobile networks around you, such as a train or a bus.

Another app for NGP, Near, will also track where you go through the day, as well as let you see what the most popular games are for the system in the areas you've walked through and offer you to buy them.

NGP releases this year in Japan at least. A GDC session will take place involving the portable tomorrow. More details on that here.
