NGP talk to be given at GDC next month

Think Services have added more talks to the GDC 2011 line-up, on of which is a Sony lecture on on the NGP handheld.

SCEA's platform research manager David Coombes will be heading a lecture called 'Next Generation Portable Platform', which will be the first public discussion of handheld outside the reveal events held last month.

Here's the lecture description: "In this presentation we will introduce a new handheld console. We will talk about the devices broad range of input and connectivity options and how these create exciting new opportunities for game designers. David Coombes has worked at Sony Computer Entertainment since 1995. He started as a developer support engineer in London. After a stint in first party development he returned to developer support in Foster City to work on the PS2. Since then he has worked on launching the PSP and PS3 platforms. Currently he splits his time between making training materials and researching future technology."

GDC organizers have also announced speakers for the Microtalks: 'One Hour, Ten Speakers, Hundreds of Fun New Ideas' presentation, hosted by Naughty Dog's Richard Lemarchand: David Jaffe, Michael John (EA), Brenda Brathwaite (Lolapps), Asi Burak (Games for Change), Jamin Brophy-Warren (Kill Screen Magazine), Jason Rohrer (Between creator), Colleen Macklin (Parsons the New School for Design), Naomi Clark (Fresh Planet) and Brandon Boyer (Independent Games Festival).

Epic's executive producer Rod Fergusson will also have a lecture which will discuss his work on the Gears Of War trilogy called 'Scooping Success': "It takes more than just a great game for it to be commercially successful. Many high quality games have seen limited success due to other factors like shipping dates, fierce competition or lack of marketing."

GDC 2011 takes place in San Francisco from February 28t to March 4.
