New Street Fighter 5 character Ed is like Balrog crossed with M. Bison

Street Fighter 5 makes my ship official.

Street Fighter 5's next DLC character is Ed, whom you may remember as a kid in Rose and Balrog's Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4 stories.

Poor old Ed was kidnapped by Shadaloo's S.I.N. division and experimented on with the intent of turning him into a replacement body for M. Bison, as a result of which his body has been artificially aged to its warrior prime well ahead of schedule. That explains why he's suddenly all grown up in Street Fighter 5, see.

Ed was raised by Balrog, which is why his fighting style is primarily composed of boxing moves, but thanks to Shadaloo's genetic interference he also draws on Psycho Power. It's tempting to think of Ed, Balrog and M. Bison as Street Fighter 5's happy little modern family but, alas, one of the father figures here is literally an evil dictator, so they don't exactly get on. In fact, Ed spends every night locked in battle with M. Bison's ghost, desperate to prevent possession. Well, we all have our issues, don't we.

The glorious video above shows how Ed fights in Street Fighter 5, and helpfully compares and contrasts with both Balrog and M. Bison.

What it doesn't says is that Ed is unique among Street Fighter 5 characters in that his special moves only require simple button presses; bar his Critical Art, you can pull all these attacks by pressing multiple buttons, button mashing or even just holding a button. Interesting. For full details on Ed's moves, check out Capcom Unity.

Although he hasn't been dated, Ed will be the third character to be introduced with the Street Fighter 5 Season 2 Character Pass. You can try him out during the upcoming CFN beta, or grab the $30/€30/£25 for Akuma, Kolin, Ed, three more upcoming characters and a stack of extra costumes and colours.
