New Civilization 6 video goes to Germany, just like everyone else this week

Civilization 6 players can take command of Frederick Barbarossa to lead Germany to glory.

The Civilization 6 marketing team have probably been planning this for months: the latest trailer is all about the German faction, at a time when the whole industry's eyes are focused on Cologne and gamescom 2016. Nice one.

In Civilization 6, Germany is led by Frederick I, Holy Roman Emperor, whose nickname Frederick Barbarossa referred to his red beard. A warrior who pressed the empire's borders against independent city-states, he has a bonus against city-states.

Germany has other advantages in Civilization 6 - cities get one more district than the population limit would allow, and a unique industrial zone called the Hansa which provides various bonuses. In terms of units, the Civilization 6 version of Germany has a U-boat naval unit.

Civilization 6 releases in October on PC. It's got a really neat art style inspired by antique maps and makes some significant changes to city management with the addition of districts.

It'll be interesting to see if Civilization 6 ever makes it to consoles now that Firaxis has seen success with XCOM. Probably depends on how well the upcoming XCOM 2 ports do.
