MS to allow "dead" Gamertags to be used again

Nelson's confirmed that Microsoft is to begin the process of rebirthing "dead" Gamertags.

The move means that Gamertags previously used and now defunct will, slowly but surely, not become available again.

"Starting today, we have begun the process of making previously used and unavailable (dead) Xbox LIVE Gamertags available," said the Xbox exec.

"This process will take some time to complete, and no we can’t tell you when the Gamertag you want might be available. If you are interested, you should check back regularly as we are reviving Gamertags daily.

"Sign into Xbox Live and go to the My Xbox channel, then select Change Gamertag. From here you can either choose from the random name generator, or you can enter a specific Gamertag to see if it’s available."

So yeah. If you've always wanted to be called SkywalkerLolzor, or something, and Barry up the road's nabbed it before you could register and then went and died, or whatever, now's your chance to jump in his grave. In your face, death.
