Move outselling Kinect in Japan by almost 2:1

Sony's Move sold 170,000 units up to the end of 2010 in Japan, according to a Media Create market report, soundly beating Kinect's 90,000 sales in the same period.

However, both devices were trounced by Torne, a DVR attachment for PlayStation 3, that sold 784,000 in 2010 to become the year's best-selling peripheral.

Sony's home-soil victory for Move may provide some solace to the Japanese giant after Kinect was named the fastest-selling worldwide electronics device in history last month.

Microsoft's peripheral racked up 8 million worldwide sales in its first 60 days on sale. It has since passed the 10 million mark.

Both Move and Kinect have proven popular with hobbyist programmers, with numerous videos surfacing of the devices being made to work with PCs.
