Mortal Kombat: photos of cancelled HD project emerge

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection HD was set to feature mo-cap from actual actors before it was cancelled, but make-up artist Tanea Brooks has posted a gallery of behind-the-scenes photos from the performance capture on her personal site. They give a rare glimpse of what could have been.

We haven't swiped the whole set as that'd be a tad dickish of us, so head over to Brooks' website to see actors portraying, Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, Katana and other characters.

The project was in development under Midway and was set to include remakes of the first three Mortal Kombat titles, but was cancelled after Warner Bros. acquired Midway and decided to release straight ports as the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection instead.

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon is counting down to something during E3 week on his Twitter feed. Could this be the rumoured sequel Kiefer Sitherland let slip a while back? We'll know all in June.
