Monster Hunter movie from Paul W.S. Anderson on the cards

Capcom may get a chance to expand its Hollywood aspirations with a Monster Hunter adaptation.

According to Andriasang's translation of a Japanese interview, Resident Evil: Retribution director Paul W.S. Anderson indicated his interest in such a project.

"Recently, I've been loving Monster Hunter. A film conversion is currently in planning," he said.

Unfortunately, the nature of the Japanese text doesn't make it clear whether Anderson means he's just thinking about it or whether a deal is in the works.

Anderson's Resident Evil movies, starring partner Milla Jovovich, are among the most successful gaming films; he was also behind Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive and science fiction efforts like Event Horizon.

Monster Hunter sells like the proverbial hotcakes in Japan and although it has been only patchily localised has performed well enough in the west. Its take on hardcore action RPG is particularly effective in multiplayer.
