Mobile hit The Room passes 2 million sales

Hit mobile puzzle title The Room has now sold over 2 million copies since its launch in September of last year, it has been revealed.

The new sales figure was revealed by Fireproof Studios Commercial Director Barry Meade in a talk at the Game Horizon conference in Newcastle.

The game previously hit 1 million sales in January, a short time after Apple awarded it their coveted iPad Game of the Year award. Meade credits a good chunk of the success to being prominently featured on Apple's storefront.

"We did not want to do a better version of someone else's game, or an update of a genre," Meade said, reported by Joystiq. "We thought we're not doing our jobs properly if we don't add to what's out there. As a game creator that's your responsibility. If you're not doing that, if you're chasing what other people are doing, you don't deserve success because you're not showing respect to the audience."

The title is available now on iOS and Android, and a sequel is planned for later this year.
