Minecraft: The Update Aquatic adds dolphins, shipwrecks, new water physics, trident weapon and more

Minecraft is getting a big new update which aims to make your underwater exploration more worthwhile and interesting.

Announced at Minecon Earth this weekend, Minecraft: The Update Aquatic has not yet been dated, but has been detailed.

The Update Aquatic adds coral, kelp, new types of fish and even dolphins to Minecraft's oceans, hopefully making them as busy as the surface biomes.

As well as living additions you'll also find shipwrecks you can explore, and can arm yourself with a new trident weapon to protect yourself down there. The trident can be used in melee or even thrown at enemies.

Like many Minecraft tools the trident can be enchanted. Mojang said the Loyalty enchantment means the trident comes back to you automatically after being thrown, but didn't give details of the Impaler and Slipstream enchantments.

Finally, The Update Aquatic overhauls Minecraft's, uhh, unique water physics. We'll be interested to see how that plays out; hopefully it won't ruin my trick of turning single buckets of water into eternal waterfalls with which to decorate my lofty skeleton king castles. (Hey, I don't ask questions about how you play Minecraft.)

The update name seems to be a play on the film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Presumably Mojang is populated with Wes Anderson fans.
