Minecraft could still show up on Nintendo consoles someday
Minecraft could eventually be released on Nintendo platforms, despite Microsoft owning the IP.
This is according to Mojang COO Vu Bui, who told MCV at MineCon is it were up to him, Minecraft would "be on everything."
"We want to continue to be available to all players, and that means being on new platforms because everyone uses something different.”
When asked specifically about Nintendo hardware, Bui said he had "never heard a reason" why it's not available on 3DS or Wii U or 3DS yet, just that it "hasn’t happened yet."
Microsoft said when it purchased Mojang in September last year for $2.5 billion it would remain available across all platforms on which it was currently available.
It has made good on this promise with new content arriving on PC, iOS, Android, Xbox and PlayStation systems.
“Minecraft is one of the most popular franchises of all time,” said Xbox head Phil Spencer at the time. “We are going to maintain ‘Minecraft’ and its community in all the ways people love today, with a commitment to nurture and grow it long into the future.”
A rumor from 2013 stated 4J Studios, which handled the non-PC versions of the title, has Wi U dev-kits in house leading many to assume a Wii U version of the sandbox title was in the works.
