Microsoft confirms that former Valve member Jason Holtman has left company

Jason Holtman has left Microsoft after less than six months in his role as ambassador for PC gaming, dashing hopes that the veteran could bring some of the same energy to Windows as he did to Steam.

UPDATE: Following recent rumours, Microsoft has confirmed to Polygon that Holtman has indeed left the company.

In a short statement, Microsoft said, "We can confirm that Jason has left Microsoft and we're grateful for his time at the company. We wish him the best in his future endeavours."

ORIGINAL STORY: Holtman's LinkedIn profile shows that he left Microsoft in January, approximately five months after taking up the position in August.

Microsoft is yet to issue any comment on the matter.

While at Valve, Holtman was personally responsible for bringing many third-party products to the then-fledgling digital distribution service. He was therefore key to its success, and in many ways responsible for the convenient digital era we enjoy as gamers in today.

The former lawyer said his ambition at Microsoft was to make "Windows a great platform for gaming and interactive entertainment," something PC gamers would certainly welcome.

“I think there is a lot of opportunity for Microsoft to deliver the games and entertainment customers want and to work with developers to make that happen, so I’m excited to be here," he said at the time.

Holtman was one of a number of respected employees who left Valve in a still-mysterious mass exodus.
