Metal Gear Survive is always online, has microtransactions

Metal Gear Survive will require a constant internet connection to play, even in single-player.

This detail was confirmed by Konami at a recent Metal Gear Survive event, where the publisher also revealed that there is an in-game store that uses microtransactions.

An internet connection is required to play all of Metal Gear Survive's modes, similar to games like Destiny, the Division as well as other online survival games.

"Metal Gear Survive's online connectivity requirements were built to support a seamless integration between single player and co-op. This will also enable us to provide ongoing content post-launch," Konami told Gamespot.

As for microtransactions, they'll be available in the form of Coins, which is the paid-for currency used to buy boosts and other buffs. Coins can also earned by playing the game.

Those who played Metal Gear Solid 5's multiplayer mode, or the Mother Base invading part of the single-player, should be familiar with this setup.

We recently went to play Metal Gear Survive, and were impressed with the co-op experience, even if the single-player portion still doesn't look that interesting.

You can check it out for yourself starting today, when the Metal Gear Survive beta starts on PS4, and Xbox One. The beta will be available until Sunday, January 21
