MechWarrior: Tactical Command announced for iOS debut

The MechWarrior franchise is going mobile.

Previously under wraps as the "Seattle Project", MechWarrior: Tactical Command has been in the works since 2009, but developer Personae Studios finally feels it has progressed enough now to live up to the franchise's esteemed name.

"Maintaining the discipline of secrecy has been monumental, but we've finally come to the point where we are comfortable with the quality of our offering, which is keeping with the expectations of our fan base for the pedigree of this franchise," studio director Edmund Koh said.

Gameplay takes the form of real-time tactics, and players will have access to more than thirty mech options and "an advanced weapons system".

Tactical Command is expected to hit the App Store in 2012. in the meantime, its website sports a number of wallpapers showing off different kinds of mechs. Check out the trailer below, too.

This is the second new game based on Battletech's MechWarrior franchise to be announced this year after a decade-long hiatus; free to play shooter MechWarrior Online is also expected next year.
